Avantidrome National Velodrome underway...............click here for updated images.
The Avantidrome started its journey as The Home of Cycling in early 2010. SPARC NZ issued a Request for Proposal across New Zealand, with the provision of granting a $7million funding package for a velodrome delivery under the UCI Olympic Regulations. The facility was to be located somewhere in a region that had the best value transport and access for the general public and high performance athletes. Thirteen regions submitted to the proposal, across a comprehensive and challenging twelve month time line.Chibnall Buckell Marovic Team Architects’ Joint Ventured with the large Waikato construction company, Livingstone’s, and delivered a successful design build/guaranteed maximum price/fixed time line package for delivery in January 2014. The velodrome arena is 110metres in length by 65metres in width, and has no supporting columns, rather a series of angled perimeter columns supporting 6 metre high, curved steel space frames, suspended 20 metres above the Siberian Pine timber track. An adjacent three storey administration building, houses Bike New Zealand and High Performance Sport, as well as a significant number of community based office, gymnasium and training spaces for road, track, BMX and mountain bike programmes. The complex and challenging design journey, has provided CBMTA with a series of skill sets, resulting in a cost efficient, finely tuned architectural design, that will endure for generations to come. read more »

Chibnall Buckell Marovic designed a four-bedroom, four-bathroom home, with guest accommodation, with a separate kitchen and its own entrance, is joined to the rest of the house by an elevator to all three levels. read more »
